Origin

Fine aroma from Colombia

FEAR 5 and FEAR 41 are among Colombia's best-known fine-aroma cocoa varieties. Both are the result of over 30 years of targeted cocoa breeding by the Colombian cocoa federation Fedecacao. Chocolates made from these varieties have been awarded for their aroma at the Salon du Chocolat in Paris. They are known for large beans and a fine, distinctive aroma. It is this variety-typical power that you will find again in the Colombia 93%.

Fair cultivation

One large farm and many small families

For our most powerful single-origin chocolate we work with partners in Colombia's Meta region who share one thing: they grow exactly the rare fine-aroma varieties that give the Colombia 93% its character. We chose them for this cultivation.

Our cocoa comes from two complementary sources. A large growing operation brings experience and consistent quality. Alongside it is an association of small cooperatives, behind which stand many individual family farms that process and market their cocoa together. In this way our demand supports both, a specialised operation and many small families in the region.

We have worked directly with both since 2023, without intermediaries.

Fine flavour cocoa

Large beans, little shell

As with many of our origins, the cocoa for the Colombia 93% grows in mixed systems rather than monocultures. The varieties FEAR 5 and FEAR 41 are known for large beans with little shell, which yields more cocoa mass per pod. After harvest, gentle fermentation ensures that the aromas are preserved; the subsequent sun drying makes the beans durable for transport.
